How Much Chocolate Do I Need
To Make Molded Candy?
How Much Chocolate per Piece?
You can calculate how much chocolate you need by measuring the mold
cavity and multiplying:
length X width X depth X .708 = Number of oz. per Cavity.
Example: If your length = 2 inches; your
width = 1 inch; and your depth = 1/2 inch,
here is the calcualtion: 2
X 1 X .5 X .708 = .70 oz. per cavity.
How Many Pieces Per Pound Of Chocolate?
Once you know how much each cavity requires, you can easily figure out how many pieces per pound of chocolate. There are 16 oz. to the pound.
So simply divide: 16 by the Number of oz. per Cavity = Number of Pieces Per Pound
Example: 16 ÷ .70 oz. per cavity divided = 22.85 Pieces per Pound
Since you can't make partial pieces, round down to 22 Pieces per Pound.
How Much Chocolate Do I Need To Make ___ Number of Pieces?
First calculate:
How Much Chocolate Per Piece X the Number of Pieces you want to make
= Total oz. of Chocolate Required
Example: If you want to make 100 pieces of candy and each cavity requires .70 oz., here is the calculation: .70 oz. per cavity X 100 pieces = 70 oz. of Chocolate
Finally, there are 16 oz. to the lb., so divide the total number of oz. needed by 16 = Number of Pounds Needed.
Example: 70 ÷ 16 = 4.37 lbs. of Chocolate Needed.
